Sports Illustrated

In 2017, I interned at Sports Illustrated. I did digital projects, branding, social media and magazine design.

Project 01

NBA Finals

The first week of my internship at Sports Illustrated coincided with the week of the 2017 NBA finals, and I didn’t waste any time getting started. I was tasked with two big digital projects on deadline, which I created and adapted based on the results of games 4 and 5.

I created a Warriors win gif for SI’s social media, as well as a photo illustration that was used as lead art on the homepage of SI.com.

Project 02

Podcasts

In between designing my pages for print, the special products editor regularly gave me digital projects to work on. One of my favorites was getting to create the cover for SI’s new Podcast, Off the Board. The podcast was hosted by Jimmy Traina and had a wide range of guest athletes who he interviewed about anything and everything.

The turnaround time for this project was pretty quick. I spent a few days doing digital sketches, inspired by sports betting boards and Las Vegas, and worked with editors to select and finesse our final concept.

Project 04

Fashionable 50

One of the biggest projects I contributed to at Sports Illustrated was creating the digital presentation for the second annual Fashionable 50 story. I designed the landing page and two main stories for SI.com, and created several assets for social, including motion graphics and custom Snapchat filters. (fun fact: Russell Westbrook posted a selfie with my design!)

Print

A collection of my favorite print pages for the magazine.
